Bank of America Warns of Capital Cycle Risks Amid AI Investment Boom
Bank of America has warned that the AI investment boom is showing classic signs of capital cycle risks, including a surge in spending, increased competition, and falling prices. The capital expenditure expectations of hyperscale cloud providers have jumped from $330 billion to $1 trillion, accounting for about 3% of U.S. GDP. Since the summer, the prices of AI tokens have dropped by about 50%, and the growth in usage may not translate into sufficient revenue. The key risk is that while AI technology may succeed, investors could suffer due to over-investment and declining returns.
