Bitcoin transfer value rises to 5.5 billion, miners earn 185000 in fees
Bitcoin's transfer value increased 26% to 5.5 billion last week, while transaction fees for miners fell 8.8% to 185200 from 203200, according to Glassnode's report on Oct. 26. The entity-adjusted transfer volume rose from 4.4 billion a week earlier, but daily active addresses decreased 2.2% to 615200, indicating a disconnect between the value transferred and miner revenue generation.
Transaction fees represent less than 1% of Bitcoin miner revenue, which typically comes from newly issued BTC and transaction fees. Higher network activity usually leads to increased fees, but the current competition for blockspace remains low despite rising transfer volumes. Earlier reports indicated that Bitcoin miners' daily revenue surpassed 40 million, with transaction fees contributing less than 1% of their income.
For instance, on Oct. 25, miners produced 158 blocks and earned approximately 494 BTC in subsidies worth 39.5 million, while transaction fees added only 1.88 BTC, valued at about 150000, equating to 0.38% of subsidy revenue. This trend has persisted, with fees accounting for just 0.69% of miner revenue on Aug. 11.
Miners face significant exposure to Bitcoin price fluctuations and the upcoming halving in 2028, which will reduce block subsidies from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC. Without increased competition for blockspace to raise transaction fees, miners will require higher Bitcoin prices or reduced operating costs to compensate for the decrease in newly issued coins.
