Cash App Transforms into Comprehensive Digital Bank, Launches Financial Products like Stocks and ETFs
Block has announced the transformation of Cash App into a comprehensive digital bank, introducing products such as stocks, ETFs, Bitcoin trading, short-term loans, high-yield savings, and customized debit cards to enhance user engagement and customer retention. Currently, Cash App has 9.4 million users who use it as their primary banking service tool, representing a 17% year-on-year growth. However, Cash App faces stagnation in user growth and compliance pressures, with multiple lawsuits previously alleging that the platform was used for fraud, identity theft, and money laundering activities. In August of this year, Block disclosed that it had doubled its legal reserves for a potential settlement regarding a long-running investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice to $526 million. Despite the company's ongoing rollout of new products, some users still primarily use Cash App for occasional transfers rather than for daily banking, investment, and spending services.
