Circle Adds Support for USDC and EURC Transfers on Plasma
Circle has added support for transferring USD Coin (USDC) and Euro Coin (EURC) on the Plasma blockchain. With this deployment, developers can now use dollar and euro-based tokens issued by Circle on Plasma, and move USDC between supported chains through a burn-and-mint mechanism. The native issuance is key, with native USDC and EURC being directly issued by Circle rather than being wrapped tokens from other chains. Exchanges and wallets must distinguish between the issuing chain and the transfer path, which is crucial in the stablecoin infrastructure. Circle describes the USDC transfer protocol as a burn on the source chain and mint on the destination chain via CCTP, and has included Plasma as a supported chain for CCTP. Plasma is a blockchain tailored for stablecoin payments, and this support aligns with the payment infrastructure of Plasma. The support for Circle-issued tokens adds dollar and euro-based options to the Plasma ecosystem, and the actual increase in payment and DeFi usage will need to be confirmed through future on-chain metrics. From a developer's perspective, the pathways for USDC movement between chains are expanding, and Circle explains that CCTP serves as infrastructure that can be integrated into apps, bridges, exchanges, wallets, and smart contracts. For Korean users, the support for USDC and EURC deposits and withdrawals on Plasma remains an important issue.
