Crypto week ahead: 5 events traders should watch
The crypto market has entered the week of October 12 with several major events approaching, including the October 14 U.S. inflation report, an October 15 Ethereum developer meeting and token unlocks valued at more than $100 million based on the supplied estimates.
- U.S. inflation data is scheduled for October 14, with producer prices following on October 15.
- Ethereum developers will discuss Glamsterdam and Hegotá upgrades during their October 15 consensus meeting online.
- Singapore's monetary authority closes its stablecoin consultation October 16, covering proposed payment regulation changes nationwide.
- Arbitrum's proposed USDG governance vote begins October 15, while Balancer faces its pool extension deadline.
- Starknet, Arbitrum and Cronos have token unlocks scheduled this week, based on published market calendars.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which has scheduled the September Consumer Price Index (CPI) release for Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time, investors will receive updated inflation figures before the Federal Reserve's next interest rate decision. The Producer Price Index (PPI) follows on Thursday, while cryptocurrency developers and regulators have separate deadlines involving Ethereum upgrades, stablecoin regulations and decentralized finance governance.
The week's schedule includes U.S. bank earnings, cryptocurrency token unlocks and industry conferences. Several events have fixed dates, while market expectations and proposed governance outcomes remain subject to change.
U.S. inflation data puts crypto markets on alert
U.S. inflation figures will be among the main economic releases during the week beginning October 12. The September CPI report is scheduled for October 14 at 8:30 a.m. ET, with forecasts in the supplied economic calendar pointing to a 0.6% monthly increase and a 3.6% annual rise. The previous readings were 0.4% and 3.4%, respectively. These estimates are market forecasts, not figures confirmed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, is expected to rise 0.2% month over month and 2.5% annually. The supplied estimates compare with previous readings of 0.3% and 2.4%. The official CPI release schedule confirms October 14 as the publication date, with the figures expected to provide another reading on consumer price pressures before the Federal Reserve's October policy meeting.
On October 15, the Labor Department will publish the September PPI report at 8:30 a.m. ET. The supplied forecasts anticipate a 0.5% monthly increase and a 5.3% annual reading, compared with previous figures of 0.4% and 5.4%. Core PPI is expected to increase 0.3% monthly and 4.4% annually. The official producer price calendar confirms the release date, although the agency has not endorsed those market estimates.
The Federal Reserve's next interest rate decision is scheduled for later in October, with market participants watching whether incoming economic data supports keeping borrowing costs unchanged. The supplied outlook anticipates unchanged rates at the October meeting, while expectations for December remain less settled. No policy decision for either meeting has been announced.
Other economic events include China's September inflation figures on October 13 and the United Kingdom's August GDP report on October 15. U.S. retail sales and weekly jobless claims are listed for October 15 in the supplied economic calendar, while the eurozone's final September inflation reading is expected on October 16. U.S. government bond markets are closed on October 12 for Columbus Day, although regular stock trading continues.
Ethereum developers prepare for October 15 upgrade meeting
Ethereum developers have scheduled their 189th All Core Developers Consensus call for October 15 at 10 a.m. ET, equivalent to 14:00 UTC. The official meeting agenda lists Glamsterdam, Hegotá and improvements to the hard fork development process as discussion topics. Developers have allocated 90 minutes for the meeting, which will focus on progress toward planned network upgrades.
Glamsterdam is Ethereum's next major upgrade and introduces changes intended to improve transaction processing and network efficiency. The upgrade includes protocol-level proposer-builder separation and block access lists, which change how transaction information is organized and processed. Ethereum developers activated Glamsterdam on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, with a 200 million gas limit included in the testing program.
As previously reported, the Sepolia deployment moved Glamsterdam into public testing ahead of its planned mainnet release. Developers are expected to review those results before finalizing the remaining testing schedule. The activation date for Ethereum mainnet has not been confirmed.
Hegotá, the upgrade expected to follow Glamsterdam in 2027, remains under development. The proposed changes include censorship resistance, transaction processing improvements and additional security features. In related coverage, Ethereum developers were reported to be reviewing dozens of proposals, while Fork-Choice Enforced Inclusion Lists remained among the confirmed priorities. The October 15 call is a development discussion, not a scheduled activation of either upgrade.
Meanwhile, Singapore's Monetary Authority has set October 16 as the closing date for its stablecoin regulation consultation. The regulator's official consultation concerns proposed amendments to the Payment Services Act and additional requirements for stablecoin issuers. Public responses must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Singapore time on October 16, after which the authority can review feedback before making further policy decisions.
Arbitrum and Balancer face governance deadlines
Several decentralized finance projects have scheduled governance decisions during the same week. ArbitrumDAO's proposal to adopt USDG as a strategic stablecoin initiative is expected to enter offchain voting on October 15, with the voting period targeted to run through October 22. The proposal seeks to support USDG adoption through incentives, liquidity programs and cooperation between Arbitrum ecosystem organizations.
According to the Arbitrum governance proposal, Entropy Advisors developed the initiative with Offchain Labs, the Arbitrum Foundation and OpCo. The plan includes increasing the DRIP incentive budget by another 100 million ARB and expanding activities intended to support USDG adoption. The proposal requires governance approval before the requested changes can proceed.
Balancer has a separate deadline on October 16 for partners requesting extensions for certain version 3 liquidity pools. The request window is part of the protocol's approved wind-down plan, which was adopted after a September governance vote. Partners must request permission by the deadline if they want eligible pools to remain operational until November 30.
The approved Balancer schedule sets October 30 as the transition date for applicable pools to become withdrawal-only, followed by the final version 3 Vault pause on November 30. The first treasury distribution to eligible BAL holders is scheduled to begin at the end of May 2027.
Gitcoin's governance calendar includes an October 15 voting deadline for a proposal to reduce its Snapshot quorum from 2.5 million GTC to 1.5 million GTC. The change would lower the voting power required for proposals to meet the governance threshold. Balancer and Compound have separate votes scheduled to close on October 13, including a Compound proposal concerning wrapped Ether reserves in its deprecated Ronin market.

Crypto token unlocks and industry events fill the calendar
Token unlocks are another scheduled development for the week. According to the supplied token release calendar, Starknet plans to unlock approximately 3.37% of its circulating STRK supply on October 15, valued at roughly $13.2 million using the quoted market prices. Connex has an unlock of approximately 1.39% of circulating CONX on the same date, estimated at $12.18 million.
On October 16, Arbitrum is scheduled to release approximately 1.56% of its circulating ARB supply, valued at around $18.07 million. Cronos follows on October 17 with an unlock representing approximately 2.33% of circulating CRO, estimated at $73.08 million. The dollar amounts are indicative values from the supplied schedule and can change with token prices; an unlock does not establish that recipients will sell the tokens.
Sonic has a separate distribution deadline on October 15 for holders with remaining Season 1 and Season 2 airdrop allocations. According to the project's official announcement, approximately 32.69 million S tokens remained unclaimed when the notice was published in April. Tokens still unclaimed after the final deadline may be permanently burned, and eligible users were instructed to claim their allocations before the cutoff.
Industry conferences are scheduled throughout the week, beginning with Paradigm Frontiers in San Francisco from October 12 through October 14. The Pantera Blockchain Summit follows in San Francisco on October 15, while Ledger Op3n is scheduled for Paris on the same day. Washington, D.C., hosts BGIN Block 15 on October 15--16, with EDCON taking place in Kuala Lumpur on October 17--18.
Traditional finance events include third-quarter earnings releases from BlackRock on October 14 and BNY on October 15, according to the supplied earnings calendar. The expected earnings-per-share figures are $14.24 for BlackRock and $2.27 for BNY, although actual results remain unreported.
Separately, Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh is scheduled to speak with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on October 15 at 11:30 p.m. ET, as listed in the supplied event schedule.
