DTCC Launches Asset Tokenization Service

On October 28, the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) activated its tokenization service, the DTCC Tokenization Service (DTS). This service allows for the issuance of digital representations of real-world assets, facilitating their transfer to digital wallets in minutes. Bidirectional conversion between traditional and tokenized values is enabled, maintaining the same ownership rights and legal protections. DTC custodies over $114 trillion in assets, some of which now have access to digital markets. Twenty market participants, including Bank of America, Barclays, Citi, J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Fidelity Investments, and UBS, have already signed agreements to operate with DTS. The platform operates under an interoperability model, integrated with the Canton Network and DTCC's private Besu network, with plans to incorporate more networks by 2027. The development involved over 150 firms and is based on a regulatory process that began in December 2025, when the SEC authorized the tokenization of components of the Russell 1000 index and other assets. In July 2026, DTCC completed technical trials with nearly 40 firms, enabling rapid operations that addressed limitations of the traditional market.
