Elon Musk Forms Special Committee for SpaceX and Tesla Merger Discussions
Elon Musk's SpaceX and Tesla have formed a special committee to explore the possibility of a merger. Musk announced during a conference call following SpaceX's earnings report that the committee was established to discuss the merger plans between the two companies. He expressed a positive stance on the merger but noted that no agreement on the terms of the deal had been reached, and the actual realization of the merger remains uncertain. The special committee was set up at the request of shareholders, and Musk stated that he would not participate in the discussions as a stakeholder. Negotiations on the merger terms are in the early stages, and shareholder approval will also be a significant variable. Musk emphasized that for Tesla to push for the merger, support from 50% of all shareholders would be necessary. Following Musk's remarks, Tesla's stock rose by 1.7% in after-hours trading, while SpaceX's stock increased by over 5%. SpaceX expects its revenue in the first quarter of 2027 to reach between $33 billion and $37 billion, highlighting AI computing services and satellite communications as long-term growth drivers.
