German Central Bank Deploys Prividium for Cross-Border Payments
The German Central Bank (Deutsche Bundesbank) implemented Prividium in its systems on September 8, 2026. This software framework from the second-layer network of Ethereum ZKsync allows financial institutions to operate private and permissioned networks. Prividium processes transactions on its own servers, maintaining data privacy and anchoring the validity of operations on the public Ethereum network. The announcement was made alongside the release of the Prividium permission engine code, which defines which users can interact with the system. The platform uses Ethereum to verify operations through cryptographic zero-knowledge proofs, ensuring the validity of the financial state without exposing sensitive information. Alex Gluchowski, CEO of Matter Labs, emphasized that institutions should not have to choose between adopting new infrastructure and maintaining control. The Prividium Core component authenticates calls and applies access restrictions before sending information to the network sequencer. This structure aims to prevent financial entities from relinquishing control of their rules to external providers and protects confidential information. The trial is part of Matter Labs' Prividium project, which seeks to include institutions such as Mastercard, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Santander, and Fidelity to facilitate cross-border payments and intraday repurchase operations.
