Hong Kong Investment Committee Warns of Secondary Market Risks for Tokenized Funds
The Hong Kong Investor and Financial Education Council has issued a warning regarding the risks associated with trading tokenized funds in the secondary market. These risks include price discrepancies, trading risks, liquidity risks, price fragmentation risks, and reliance on market makers. Tokenized funds are traded on virtual asset trading platforms and may experience significant premiums or discounts compared to their net asset values. The Hong Kong Investment Committee emphasizes that investors should understand the underlying fund's investment objectives, strategies, characteristics, operations, and associated investment risks, as well as the trading settlement methods and related risks of the tokenization arrangements. Additionally, investors need to pay attention to the information regarding trading channels, market maker arrangements, applicable fees, potential trading suspensions, and the options and related impacts of subscribing to or redeeming tokenized fund units at net asset value.
