India Promotes BRICS Nations to Use Central Bank Digital Currencies for Payments

India will push BRICS nations to expand the use of central bank digital currencies for cross-border payments, but will not support a unified payment network that could challenge the US dollar. Prime Minister Modi is inclined to use central bank digital currencies for settling bilateral trade among member countries. It is unlikely that an agreement on a single BRICS payment settlement system will be reached at the leaders' summit in New Delhi this weekend.
