Jaguar Land Rover to Cut 4,000 Jobs Due to Crisis
Jaguar Land Rover plans to cut around 4,000 jobs over the next two years as part of a £1.7 billion cost-saving program. This decision is linked to a sharp decline in profits, the aftermath of a cyberattack, American tariffs, and competition from Chinese automakers. The company employs about 34,000 people in the UK, with the cuts primarily affecting management positions and research and development areas. JLR aims to simplify its management structure and reduce sales levels to achieve breakeven at 300,000 vehicles per year. Pre-tax profit for the last year was only £14 million compared to £2.5 billion the previous year. The cyberattack cost the company around £200 million. U.S. tariffs also exerted pressure, initially set at 27.5% but later reduced to 10%. The American market is important for JLR, especially for sales of the Range Rover and Defender models. The British government does not plan to allocate funds to prevent the cuts; however, authorities and JLR management will discuss the situation with the Unite union, which insists on retraining workers.
