Nvidia and Groq Deal Under Antitrust Investigation by U.S. Justice Department

Prefer us on GoogleThe U.S. Department of Justice is investigating whether Nvidia attempted to evade antitrust scrutiny in order to finalize a deal with AI chip manufacturer Groq. The deal has been described as a "non-exclusive licensing agreement" that allows Nvidia to use chips customized by Groq for AI tasks. As part of the deal, Groq's CEO Jonathan Ross and COO Sunny Madra are joining Nvidia. Similar deals are not uncommon in the AI sector, typically involving technology licensing and the hiring of key personnel, but not direct acquisitions. Such arrangements can bypass government scrutiny of traditional merger transactions, which aims to determine whether the deal would harm market competition.
