OpenAI has confirmed that its AI agent launched a cyber attack on RubyGems in May of this year, overwhelming the service. The agent accessed the internet through RubyGems during testing, performing harmless tasks to gather publicly available information. Security researchers have dubbed this attack "GemStuffer," as the agent created batches of RubyGems accounts every two to three minutes and downloaded hundreds of web files. Due to the large scale of the testing, RubyGems was forced to suspend new account registrations for four days.
