Ondo Finance is known for its institution-grade financial products on the blockchain, while Plume Network is the first fully-integrated and modular Layer-1 blockchain designed for Real World Asset finance (RWAfi). The two have now announced that they will expand the use cases of RWAfi by issuing Ondo's tokenized U.S. Treasury bond product on the Plume Network, including the USD Yield (USDY)—Ondo's yield-bearing coin based on U.S. Treasury bonds.
This collaboration combines Ondo's expertise in institutional DeFi products and asset management with Plume's blockchain infrastructure tailored for RWA projects, protocols, and capital providers. The partnership aims to streamline access to RWA and simplify capital integration through RWAfi-specific features. Currently, the total value locked (TVL) of USDY across 8 blockchains exceeds $450 million, offering a 4.9% Annual Percentage Yield (APY) and will enable global (non-U.S.) users and institutional investors on Plume to benefit from the combination of stablecoins with U.S. Treasury bond yield generation.
Accelerating RWAfi Adoption
Plume has emerged as a pioneer in the RWAfi space, facilitating asset tokenization and directly integrating capital and compliance providers into its blockchain infrastructure. Plume currently supports over 180 in-development RWAfi projects, providing a secure and cost-effective ecosystem for entities and asset issuers focusing on RWAfi.
Chris Yin, CEO of Plume, stated, "Plume's mission is to build a composable financial ecosystem, making transactions of real-world assets seamless, integrating Ondo into our ecosystem allows us to offer investors a comprehensive platform to support diversified investments across various RWAs, further accelerating the development of RWAfi-focused entities."
Enhancing Accessibility and Compliance
Ondo Finance is committed to making institution-grade financial products and services accessible to everyone. By combining blockchain technology with best practices of traditional finance—encompassing investor protection, transparency, legal, and regulatory compliance—Ondo develops and manages tokenized financial products while building a decentralized financial protocol.
This collaboration will focus on expanding the use case of USDY within RWAfi, introducing a composable, yield-generating asset into the nascent RWA ecosystem, creating new opportunities for users and issuers.
Ondo's Partner and Vice President, Katie Wheeler, stated, "We are excited to integrate our US Treasury Bond product into the Plume ecosystem, given Plume Network's significant success in driving RWAfi. Plume is creating a network effect for RWA issuance, and a composable, yield-generating asset can provide strong incentives for this economic system. This not only enhances the asset's utility but also brings immense benefits to the entire ecosystem."
Integration of Established RWAfi Leadership
The teams at Ondo Finance and Plume Network consist of professionals from globally renowned institutions, including JPMorgan, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey & Co., Coinbase, Robinhood, LayerZero, Binance, and dYdX. This exceptional blend of traditional financial heavyweights and blockchain-native institutions has strategically deployed their industry insights and technical expertise to address the evolving needs of the RWAfi ecosystem. By uniting these experienced leaders and leveraging the unique strengths of Ondo and Plume, advanced solutions for Real World Asset Finance (RWAfi) can be offered, unlocking new opportunities.
