Tectonic Hacker Transfers 2,658.9 ETH to Tornado Cash
An address related to the Tectonic attack transferred 2,658.9 ETH, approximately $6.65 million, to Tornado Cash at UTC on September 3. This transfer involves part of the funds that could not be recovered on the Cronos network following the incident on August 30. After the attack, Cronos restored the blockchain to its pre-intrusion state and resumed block production starting from block 90,896,189. The rollback cleared almost all balances related to the attacker within the network, but did not affect the funds that had been transferred to Ethereum. According to PeckShield, approximately $74 million in stolen funds can be traced through three addresses, with $60 million located in one wallet on Cronos, $8 million in a second wallet, and $6 million on Ethereum. Tectonic, described as the largest lending platform on Cronos, was drained on August 30. The destination of the funds has raised concerns, as Tornado Cash remains the largest mixer on the Ethereum network. The chain rollback reduced losses but also raised questions about the purpose of network transactions. The Tectonic incident has been pointed out as the largest event in August and ranks as the fourth largest cryptocurrency theft case in 2026.
