Vice President Vance Asks Central Bank for Interest Rate Cut
Vice President JD Vance has requested a reduction in interest rates by the U.S. central bank. This request comes amid pressure from the White House to make borrowing cheaper. The current interest rate stands between 3.5% and 3.75%, with the next rate decision scheduled for September 16. Vance emphasized during a press moment that the Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank, needs to lower rates in light of recent inflation figures. However, he has no direct influence on the rate decision, which is made by the Fed. President Donald Trump has also previously called for a rate cut. The market currently does not expect a rate reduction, as Fed official Christopher Waller has indicated he may vote for a steady rate if inflation decreases. Traders are factoring in a constant rate or a possible increase, making a cut as Vance suggests seem unlikely. The rate decision on September 16 will also be influenced by new data on the U.S. labor market and inflation.
