WEEX Exclusive:Silver and Platinum Jump More Than 2.5% | WEEX TradFi Daily (August 21, 2026)

Opening Summary
- Walmart’s weaker-than-expected same-store sales and guidance dragged consumer names and the major indexes lower.
- Silver and platinum rallied sharply, supported by lower yields and a softer dollar.
- Bitcoin climbed toward $75,000, extending gains across crypto-linked equities.
- Markets are focused on the August S&P Global PMI flash readings for clues on the September rate path.
1、Market Highlights
1)Silver and Platinum Surge on Falling Yields and a Weaker Dollar
WEEX data showed silver up 2.5% intraday to around $68 per ounce, while platinum advanced 3.2% to $1,864. The move was driven by the Treasury’s expanded long-bond buybacks, which pushed yields lower, alongside a softer dollar and combined industrial plus safe-haven demand.
The rally in precious metals reflects stronger relative appeal for non-yielding assets. Market focus is now shifting to how the upcoming PMI data may affect real yields, the dollar, and the durability of industrial demand.

Futures: SLV / XAG / XPT
2)Walmart (WMT) Slumps After Soft Same-Store Sales and Guidance
Walmart (WMT) shares fell sharply after quarterly results missed expectations on same-store sales growth and third-quarter guidance. Management also cited the psychological impact of oil prices on consumer spending, adding to concerns around demand resilience.
Investors are now focused on retail demand durability and margin pressure. The next major catalyst will come from follow-up consumer data and further management commentary on the second-half outlook.

Futures: WMT
3)Bitcoin Nears $75,000 as Crypto Stocks Extend Higher
Bitcoin has surged toward the $75,000 area this week, lifting related equities including RIOT, MSTR, CRCL, and COIN. Expanded Treasury long-bond buybacks and progress on an SEC crypto-issuance exemption framework have together provided both liquidity and policy support.
Investors are watching the pace of regulatory implementation. The next major catalyst will be formal rule progress and the impact of macro data on broader risk appetite.
Watchlist: BTC, RIOT, MSTR, CRCL, COIN
Spot: BTC / RIOTON / MSTRB / CRCLB / COINB
Futures: BTC / RIOT / MSTR / CRCL / COIN
2、Today’s Preview
1)S&P Global August Manufacturing and Services PMI Flash | August 21 U.S. Eastern Time
S&P Global will release the August Manufacturing and Services PMI flash readings on August 21 U.S. Eastern Time. Investors will focus on activity momentum, new orders, and price components to assess the implications for the September rate path.
If the PMIs come in stronger than expected, together with already firm jobless-claims data, the market may lean further toward a higher-for-longer rates narrative, which could pressure equities. Key focus will be whether both manufacturing and services remain in expansion and how inflation-related components behave.
Watchlist: SPY, QQQ, IWM
Spot: SPYB / QQQB / IWMON
Futures: SPY / QQQ / IWM
