White House reviews candidates for four CFTC seats
The White House is reviewing candidates to fill four vacant seats at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Two openings are being considered for Democratic nominees, although current law does not mandate the appointment of opposition-party commissioners. The CFTC has five seats, with a maximum of three commissioners from the same party. Currently, the commission is led solely by Chairman Michael Selig. If the White House appoints two Republican commissioners, the panel could have a 3-0 partisan split. If Democratic commissioners are also appointed, the introduction of rules related to crypto perpetual futures and margin trading may undergo a longer review and public comment period.
