KIOXIA Unveils AI Storage Device with Direct GPU Connection in GP Series
KIOXIA has unveiled the 'KIOXIA GP Series', a storage device for AI infrastructure that supports direct access to flash memory by GPUs. The GP Series is a high IOPS SSD designed in line with NVIDIA's 'Storage-Next' concept, allowing GPUs to utilize high-speed flash memory directly. Evaluation samples are expected to be provided to select customers by the end of 2026. The GP Series focuses on extending the memory hierarchy needed for AI computations using flash, rather than replacing HBM. KIOXIA aims to apply its low-latency, high-performance 'XL-FLASH' storage class, targeting higher IOPS and lower power consumption compared to existing TLC SSDs. A senior director from KIOXIA's SSD division stated that they will provide dedicated SSDs to support the NVIDIA Storage-Next initiative and meet the demand for GPU-accessible memory. The first generation of the GP Series will be developed under the PCIe 6.0 standard, while the second generation aims to achieve 100 MIOPS on PCIe 7.0. KIOXIA has set a goal to increase the share of data center and enterprise revenue to over 60% in the medium to long term.
