The Arctic LNG 2 project in Russia achieved a record export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) of over 500,000 tons per month in July and August. The increase in shipments is linked to the expansion of the fleet servicing the project, with China remaining the sole buyer. Natural gas production at Arctic LNG 2 during these months exceeded 27 million cubic meters per day, nearly double the amount in August 2025. Exports from the facility totaled approximately 700 million cubic meters of gas. Currently, the project is serviced by at least 20 vessels, up from 11 at the end of December. Most of the tankers have opaque ownership structures. Arctic LNG 2 is a key project for Russia to increase LNG production; however, Western sanctions following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine have complicated the realization of these plans due to limited access to specialized tankers.
