Bitcoin Mining Difficulty Rises by 11.4%, Hashrate Hits Record High
Bitcoin mining companies are transitioning to artificial intelligence (AI) businesses, yet the overall hashrate of the Bitcoin network is increasing. According to Cointelegraph on the 22nd, the 7-day average hashrate of Bitcoin has surpassed 1 zettahash (ZH/s), which corresponds to 1,000 exahashes (EH/s), marking the highest level since March 3. The mining difficulty for Bitcoin rose by 5.92% on the 16th, and Blockbridge expects it to increase by 5.16% in the next adjustment. This would bring the cumulative increase to approximately 11.4%. Blockbridge assessed that the remaining mining companies, which had hoped for a relief from the burden due to the transition to AI, are far from achieving this. Although the actual hashrate of listed mining companies has decreased by 23%, revenue from AI and high-performance computing (HPC) has increased by 52% compared to the previous quarter. Blockbridge estimates the value of equipment that has exited mining due to the AI transition to be around $1.5 billion. There are also suggestions that small mining companies have acquired second-hand equipment disposed of by larger firms, which may have helped restore network computing power. While the increase in hashrate is interpreted as a sign of enhanced security for the Bitcoin network, mining companies are not benefiting from a reduction in competition despite the transition to AI.
