China Plans National Blockchain Network by 2030
China has included blockchain as a key direction for digital infrastructure and plans to deploy a national blockchain network by 2030. The project is state-sponsored and is not related to the legalization of cryptocurrencies. On October 23, 2026, the Central Cybersecurity Commission published an informatization plan for the 15th Five-Year Plan, which lists the national blockchain network alongside other technological directions. The main objective of the plan is to accelerate the integration of digital technologies into the economy and public administration, enhance security levels, and develop a system of standards. Blockchain is viewed as an element of the national information infrastructure. The ban on cryptocurrencies remains in place: cryptocurrency exchanges and related services are still illegal, and Bitcoin and Ethereum are not recognized as legal tender. Technical details of the future network have not been disclosed, and there is no information about the budget, contractors, or access rules. The plans do not anticipate the use of Bitcoin or Ethereum networks, which excludes the possibility of new demand for these assets. The architecture of the project and connection rules are expected to be published soon.
