Fugitive since 2022 for bitcoin scams in Salta, arrested in Australia and will be extradited next week
The Justice of Salta is awaiting the transfer from Australia of Nicolás Mendioroz Juncosa, who is being investigated in a case for alleged scams and fraudulent management related to bitcoin investments. The accused had been on the run since 2022 until he was finally located on the other side of the world. After being arrested in the oceanic country, it was confirmed that the accused will be transferred next Thursday, October 15. It is expected that Australian authorities will hand over the detainee to Interpol so that he can be transported to the capital of Salta. According to official sources, Mendioroz Juncosa was declared a fugitive after leaving the province in 2022, shortly before an indictment hearing. Since then, there has been a national and international arrest warrant against him. One of the victims told El Tribuno that in 2021 the accused managed over USD 170,000 that was allegedly intended for operations with cryptocurrencies. As a result of this testimony, the investigation included charges of fraud and fraudulent management, among other crimes. In line with this, the complainants maintained that the accused remained out of reach of justice for several years because he allegedly took the money resulting from the scams. However, his location in Australia reactivated the procedure for him to be made available to the Salta courts. While the extradition process was underway, Mendioroz Juncosa's defense had requested that he not be transferred in detention and that he could return on his own to present himself before the justice system. According to information obtained by Informate Salta, the accused's family had also offered a property as real collateral. However, the victims opposed this request and demanded that the mechanism established by the Salta justice be maintained. After insisting that the measures requested by Judge of Guarantees 8, Claudia Puertas, be complied with, the complainants reproached the attitude of Mendioroz Juncosa's family. "This man belongs to what is called 'good people' and his ties to the power of these circles do not need to be enumerated," they indicated. "He never presented himself before the local justice requirements, fled, and gave no signs of life or proposed solutions to anything," expressed several of the victims. They even suggested that "he was probably waiting for the statute of limitations to return triumphantly to Salta". "Since 2022 we have been waiting for a response about our money," the victims stated, assuring that the work of Interpol has "opened a window of hope" for them to achieve justice for the reported losses.
Illegal finance in Salta: sentenced for 48 counts of fraud and must compensate victims with $35 million
A woman was sentenced in Salta to three years of conditional imprisonment after admitting her responsibility in 48 counts of fraud linked to an illegal finance company that offered weekly returns of up to 60%. In addition, she must pay $35 million in nine installments as economic compensation. The convicted is Patricia Jimena Vidaurre, who reached a plea agreement with the Unit of Complex Economic Crimes (UDEC). Judge Nicolás Rodríguez Pipino approved the agreement during a preventive detention review hearing. The investigation began in August 2025, after several people reported having given money to "Inversiones Alyson", a firm that, according to the accusation, operated without authorization. The proposal included weekly returns of between 40% and 60% on the amounts contributed. The operations were mainly coordinated through WhatsApp groups. Money was received in cash or through bank transfers, according to information released by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Salta. Initially, investors received the promised returns. This dynamic is believed to have generated trust among participants, who increased their contributions and recommended the operation to others. Over time, payments were delayed until they were interrupted, as well as communication with those who claimed their funds. UDEC gathered complaints, transfer receipts, conversation screenshots, and documentation related to "Loans and Investments Alyson". For this reason, it also requested information from banks and financial entities about the accounts used to receive the victims' money. Vidaurre was arrested on August 28, 2025, along with her partner and his son. However, the other two implicated have not yet been tried, and their procedural situation remains pending. Raids were carried out in Salta capital and Rosario de Lerma. During these procedures, documentation was seized, and the immobilization of bank accounts and virtual wallets associated with the accused was ordered. As part of the agreement, Vidaurre must pay $35 million in nine installments. One of her properties will remain seized until the total amount committed is paid. She must also comply with conduct rules for three years to maintain her freedom, including establishing and keeping an updated address, abstaining from drug use and alcohol abuse, not committing new crimes, and performing weekly cleaning tasks in a police station near her home.
