Goldman Sachs and Talcott Secure $1 Billion Reinsurance Capital
Goldman Sachs and Talcott Financial Group have secured approximately $1 billion in capital commitments through Bermuda-based reinsurance sidecar West Grove Re. West Grove is designed to underwrite a portion of the premiums and losses arising from Talcott's U.S. pension portfolio. Goldman Sachs Asset Management will manage private asset investment strategies within this structure. A reinsurance sidecar is a mechanism that combines external investor capital with specific risks held by an insurer, allowing investors to expect premium income and operational returns while also bearing potential losses. According to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Form D, 'West Grove Re Access Offshore SCSp' is registered as a corporation established in Luxembourg in 2026. Talcott completed a reinsurance transaction with MetLife for approximately $10 billion in variable annuity and rider reserves in December 2025, with MetLife managing the contract. Talcott currently has assets under management of $135 billion, and the credit ratings of its affiliated insurers are disclosed as AM Best A-, Fitch A-, and Moody's A3. This transaction is not directly related to cryptocurrency.
