Indonesia to Exchange Cross-Border Crypto Asset Data in 2027
Indonesia will begin cross-border crypto asset information exchange in 2027 as part of efforts to strengthen tax oversight. The country has adopted the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF) developed by the OECD, allowing tax authorities from various countries to exchange information regarding crypto assets. Deputy Minister of Finance Nurkholisoh Ibnu Aman stated that the development of digital assets enables rapid cross-border financial transactions, but the information required by tax authorities does not always move as quickly. This information exchange requires accurate data, secure systems, and legal compliance, as well as cooperation among agencies such as the Ministry of Finance, Bank Indonesia, and OJK. As of August 2026, Indonesia has more than 23 million digital asset consumer accounts, highlighting the importance of regulatory certainty for the public and businesses. Nurkholisoh emphasized that the government's task is to build regulations that are understandable and trustworthy for the public, as well as to differentiate the use of crypto assets as a means of payment, trade oversight, and the application of tax provisions.
