Judy Shelton Appointed as Advisor to U.S. Treasury Secretary
The U.S. Department of the Treasury has appointed Judy Shelton as an advisor to Treasury Secretary Scott Morrison, responsible for providing advice on monetary policy. Shelton previously failed to gain Senate approval for a position on the Federal Reserve Board due to her controversial economic views. Before joining the Treasury, she served as a senior research fellow at the Independent Institute and worked at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. In 2019, President Trump nominated Shelton to the Federal Reserve Board, but she faced bipartisan opposition in the Senate, primarily concerning her support for the independence of the Federal Reserve, the gold standard, and her skepticism about the necessity of central banks.
