Oil Surpasses $90, Bonds and Stocks Fall on Wall Street
Global markets are experiencing a slight decline following military clashes between the United States and Iran, which have driven up oil prices and reignited inflation fears. Expectations regarding interest rates are becoming more restrictive, which could influence market behavior in September, a historically weak month for stocks. U.S. forces attacked two missile launchers on the Iranian island of Larak in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, marking the first U.S. military action against Iran since late July. This prompted Tehran to launch attacks on two U.S. air bases in Jordan. In this context, Brent crude rose 5.9% to $91.2 per barrel, while U.S. WTI crude increased 3.7% to $86.5 per barrel. The rise in energy prices heightens concerns about inflation as investors brace for a tighter monetary policy. Borrowing costs in the eurozone and Japan have reached multi-year highs, and the yield on 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds stands at 4.72%, close to its peak.
