Saylor Envisions Bitcoin-Backed Stablecoin with Annual Yield of 6% to 8%
Michael Saylor proposed at the ParaFi Investor Day that an ideal "digital currency" should be pegged to the US dollar, maintain very low price volatility, and offer an annual yield of 6% to 8%. He referred to it as a "Bitcoin-backed stablecoin," envisioning it to serve as a medium of exchange, unit of account, and store of value, usable for payments, collateral, and trading. Saylor stated that such products should have high liquidity, allowing investors to exit after holding for only a few days, similar to short-duration money market instruments. His idea is to use Bitcoin as the underlying capital and provide returns to holders through a digital credit structure, rather than generating interest directly from Bitcoin itself. He also discussed increasing the dividend frequency of Strategy's perpetual preferred stock STRC to daily, in order to reduce price volatility caused by ex-dividend dates, improve liquidity, and adapt to year-round tokenized trading. STRC is a preferred stock, not a stablecoin; the aforementioned 6% to 8% yield pertains to his digital currency concept and does not represent a yield commitment for any launched product.
