Schmidt Holds Approximately 1% Stake in Anthropic, IPO Could Increase Value by Nearly $10 Billion
Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt holds about a 1% stake in Anthropic through early investments, making him one of the largest individual beneficiaries of the company's IPO. He invested tens of millions of dollars in Anthropic's Series A funding round in 2021, when the company's valuation was $461 million. It is currently unclear whether he has sold any of his shares, and both Schmidt and Anthropic declined to comment. Investors believe that Anthropic's fair valuation is around $1.8 trillion to $2 trillion. Based on the company's recent valuation of $965 billion, Schmidt's stake is worth nearly $10 billion. If the company's valuation reaches $2 trillion, Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimates that his net worth would increase by about one-third, approaching $80 billion. According to insiders, Anthropic is expected to officially launch its IPO roadshow during the week of November 9, with trading anticipated to begin before Thanksgiving in the U.S., and the company is expected to go public by the end of the year. Other major investors in the company include Alphabet, Amazon, Nvidia, and Microsoft.
