Slow Fog CISO Points Out Inaccurate Description of Linux Kernel Vulnerability
The Chief Information Security Officer of Slow Fog, 23pds, stated that many non-professionals and KOLs have exaggerated the Linux kernel vulnerability CVE-2026-98432, claiming that "all Ubuntu systems can be remotely rooted with zero clicks." This statement is inaccurate. The vulnerability involves a use-after-free race condition in the memory release during the IPv4 TCP handshake, affecting only the underlying network protocol stack, not specific applications. Additionally, the target server must have MPTCP listening enabled for exploitation, while Linux does not enable MPTCP by default; only specially configured servers would be affected. As of October 30, patches have been released for Debian 12 and 13, while Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04, and 26.04 are still being fixed, and RHEL 8/9/10 has postponed the fix. Currently, no large-scale in-the-wild exploitation cases have been confirmed by officials.
