Symbiosis recovers 15 BTC after Bitcoin Bridge hack, liquidity providers unpaid
Cross-chain protocol Symbiosis recovered approximately 15 BTC after a hack on its Bitcoin Bridge on Sep. 11. Affected liquidity providers are still awaiting compensation terms as a bounty window nears its cutoff on Sep. 13. The vulnerability was exploited at around 04:28 UTC, impacting only the Bitcoin Bridge, while other routes remained operational. Symbiosis confirmed that routes through EVM chains, TRON, and TON were unaffected, and its relayer group continued to secure the network. The recovered bitcoin is held in a team-controlled multisig. Security firm Blockaid reported that the attack resulted in the minting of approximately 2^62 raw units of syBTC, which was sold for about 336000 WBTC on Ethereum. Symbiosis initially paused Bitcoin-related swaps but later resumed those routed through partners Chainflip and THORChain, while the native bridge remains offline. The protocol is directly contacting affected liquidity providers to establish a compensation framework, but has not disclosed qualification criteria or payment timelines. A 20% white-hat bounty is offered to the attacker until Sep. 13, after which the same percentage will be available for information leading to recovery. Affected liquidity providers are awaiting confirmed loss figures, compensation criteria, and updates on the bridge's status.
