The anticipated premiere arriving on Prime Video that promises to become one of the most viewed
Prime Video will add a Brazilian action and science fiction film to its catalog, combining chases, social critique, and survival in a futuristic setting. The production will be available on the platform starting August 5 in Latin America, as part of the month’s premiere programming.
We are talking about "Beast Race." The story unfolds in a near-future Rio de Janeiro, marked by deep social inequality and an environmental crisis that has completely altered the lives of its inhabitants. In this context, an underground competition known as the Beast Race becomes the only opportunity for those seeking to escape poverty or change their fate.
The plot presents a Brazil transformed by climate change and profound economic disparities. Rio de Janeiro is depicted as divided between privileged sectors that concentrate resources and neighborhoods where survival depends on taking increasingly greater risks. In this scenario, the Beast Race, an illegal competition emerges, pitting various participants against each other in a course filled with obstacles, violence, and extreme-speed decisions. Winning means accessing a financial reward capable of changing your life; losing can have fatal consequences.
As the story progresses, the film delves into the political and business interests surrounding the event. The race ceases to be merely a competition and transforms into a spectacle followed by millions of people, while the organizers use entertainment as a tool of control over an increasingly fragmented society.
The narrative also explores the personal motivations of the competitors. Each arrives with a different goal: some seek money, others try to protect their families, and others simply want to escape a system that seems to offer no alternatives. In addition to the action sequences, the film raises questions about inequality, the use of entertainment as a mechanism of social control, and the consequences of a future marked by environmental crisis. This blend of spectacle and critique is one of the highlights pointed out by its creators.
Prime Video has already released the official trailer of the film, showcasing some of the most important sequences of the competition and presenting the futuristic universe in which the story unfolds. The trailer anticipates high-speed chases, confrontations between participants, and a completely transformed city.
One of the main Latin American bets of the month
The direction is led by Fernando Meirelles, internationally recognized for City of God and The Two Popes, along with Rodrigo Pesavento and Ernesto Solis. From Prime Video, they defined the film as one of the most important Latin American bets of the month and included it in their international release calendar for August.
The premiere of "Beast Race" arrives in a particularly loaded month for the platform, which also plans to incorporate new seasons of series, documentaries, and original films. However, due to its combination of action, science fiction, and a highly recognized cast in Brazil, the production stands out as one of the strongest bets of the service for August.
