Trump Claims Hundreds of Billions Earned for the U.S. from Stocks
Donald Trump claims that he has generated "hundreds of billions of dollars" for the U.S. government through stocks and other interests. He presents this statement as a success of his investment strategy. However, there is no independent verification available for the mentioned amount. While some investments, such as those in chipmaker Intel, have indeed yielded billions in paper profits, there is criticism regarding the growing role of the government as a shareholder. Trump asserts that the government purchased 433.3 million shares of Intel at $20.47 each, which now represents a value of approximately $36 billion. This results in a paper profit of nearly $27 billion. Nevertheless, Trump does not explain which other investments would have generated the "hundreds of billions of dollars." The strategy of his administration, which increasingly takes stakes in key sectors such as chips and defense, is labeled by analysts as a "new form of state capitalism." Both Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal have raised questions about these government investments.
