US Startup Successfully Develops Artificial Gold, Highlighting Bitcoin Scarcity
A US startup, Marathon Fusion, has successfully developed artificial gold, drawing attention to the scarcity of Bitcoin (BTC). As the possibility of increased gold supply is raised, the relative strength of Bitcoin, which has a fixed total issuance of 21 million coins, may become more pronounced. According to a statement released on the 21st, Marathon Fusion announced that it has succeeded in an experiment to convert mercury into gold. They explained that they utilized high-energy neutrons generated during the nuclear fusion process to transform the atomic nuclei of mercury into stable gold. However, it remains uncertain whether this experiment will lead to mass production of gold, and the actual production volume and costs have not been disclosed. The commercial viability of the technology also requires further validation. Analysts suggest that if gold supply expands, it could impact existing valuations. Bitcoin, even with advancements in mining technology or the emergence of new supply sources, is limited to a total issuance of approximately 21 million coins, making it difficult to arbitrarily increase the supply cap. Bitcoin promotes its 'mathematically predictable scarcity,' and as artificial gold technology advances, the characteristics of Bitcoin are likely to become even more pronounced.
