AEON Launches Agentic Checkout Feature Supported by AI Card
AEON, a payment and reconciliation infrastructure developed for the artificial intelligence economy, has launched the Agentic Checkout feature, which allows AI agents to autonomously search for products, create shopping carts, and make payments on e-commerce platforms like Shopify and Amazon. Supported by the AEON AI Card, the system aims to convert user requests into completed shopping transactions by granting AI agents spending authority within certain limits.
Thanks to the Agentic Checkout, which integrates directly with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), users can communicate with an AI agent through a chat-based interface. While users describe the product they are looking for or their needs in natural language, the AI agent can research suitable products and create a shopping cart based on the specified criteria.
After selecting products, users can approve the purchase through an AEON AI Card that operates on Visa or Mastercard infrastructure. This way, the AI agent can complete the transaction without accessing the user's primary payment information or the wallet containing their crypto assets. The system manages the entire process from product discovery to cart creation and payment, transforming a request given in natural language into a completed purchase transaction.
At the core of the system is the AEON AI Card, developed to provide financial mobility to AI agents while ensuring that expenditures remain within predefined limits. This structure allows AI agents to make purchases on behalf of users without directly accessing their main wallets or traditional credit cards. Thus, the goal is to transition from a model where AI only assists users in decision-making to one where decisions can be safely implemented in the real economy.
Agentic Checkout is designed to provide access to an open and broad trade ecosystem rather than restricting AI agents to a limited number of selected vendors. Through Shopify integration, AI agents can search for over a billion products across more than 3 million active stores operating in over 175 countries. Product categories include clothing, home goods, beauty, electronics, and books, among many others.
The infrastructure also includes security measures for real use cases. All card numbers and security codes are not included in chat logs or the context of the AI model. Additionally, in cases where the outcome of a payment transaction is uncertain, the system verifies the status of the previous transaction before attempting a refund. This aims to prevent unnoticed duplicate payments.
As more trade platforms open up to AI agents, the secure authorization and reconciliation of these transactions are becoming increasingly important. AEON's Agentic Checkout and AI Card create a financial application layer that enables AI agents to operate within predefined spending limits. AEON aims to develop the infrastructure necessary for these agents to conduct transactions securely in digital and physical economies, make payments, and achieve reconciliation.
Agentic Checkout and AI Card form two complementary components of AEON's payment infrastructure for AI agents. While Agentic Checkout enables AI agents to carry out shopping transactions, AI Card provides controlled financial authority for these transactions to be paid. AI agents can increasingly perform searches, conduct analyses, coordinate tasks, and make decisions on behalf of users. The next phase of this development will involve transforming the decisions made into secure and verifiable economic transactions.
AEON aims to create this infrastructure by bringing together the identity of AI agents, payment authorization, transaction execution, and reconciliation within a single framework. This way, AI agents can autonomously conduct transactions within clearly defined financial boundaries in digital and physical economies, securely and transparently.
AEON operates as a local payment and reconciliation layer developed for the artificial intelligence economy. Offering programmable payment tools such as Agent Account, AI Card, and AI Gateway, AEON aims to enable autonomous AI agents to conduct transactions on global value networks. AEON integrates with standards such as x402, ERC-8004, MCP, and Google A2A. The company aims to scale verifiable AI payments through these integrations and connect AI agents to a network of over 50 million vendors worldwide.
According to data shared by AEON, the platform has processed over $514 million in transaction volume for more than 2.3 million users to date. Among the project's investors are YZi Labs, IDG Capital, HashKey Capital, and Stanford Blockchain Builders Fund.
