Argentina seizes nearly $400,000 in cryptocurrencies for the first time
On October 20, Matías Figueroa Escauriza, Secretary of Provincial Registry Management of Santa Fe, Argentina, confirmed the seizure of nearly $400,000 in cryptocurrencies related to an international scam network. The operation was carried out two weeks ago through the freezing and transfer of funds from a virtual wallet abroad. The criminal maneuver affected victims in several countries across Latin America. Figueroa Escauriza explained that the operation required coordination between the provincial Executive and the Prosecutor's Office to trace and transfer the assets. To safeguard the funds, the provincial government enabled a wallet in the name of the public agency. The owners of the seized assets have not yet been identified, and the case must conclude to determine the accredited victims and proceed with formal restitution. The official scheme plans to return the assets in kind, through direct transfers to the affected parties, without liquidating them into fiat currency. Additionally, the extradition from Australia of Nicolás Mendioroz Juncosa was reported, who is being investigated for an alleged scam of $170,000 in bitcoin investments.
