Brazil's Supreme Court Postpones Hearing on Gambling Ban to November 3
The Brazilian Supreme Court will hold a public hearing on the ban of sports betting and online casinos on November 3, with no decision yet on whether to suspend the ban. The hearing is scheduled for 10 AM local time and will focus on the economic impact of the ban. The ban took effect on October 25, rendering 85 gambling licenses in Brazil invalid. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won re-election on the same day, and the gambling industry organization ANJL has called for a resumption of dialogue with the government. The hearing will include 26 participants, including parties involved in the related lawsuits, government agencies, football clubs, and industry organizations, while individual gambling operators have not been invited. Congress must vote on the temporary measure by November 23, with the possibility of a one-time extension for up to 60 days.
