Circle CCTP V1 to Be Deprecated on October 31, 2026
Circle has announced that it will deprecate the USDC cross-chain protocol CCTP V1 starting October 31, 2026, with a complete phase-out by December 1. Migration to CCTP V2 is mandatory, and applications still routing USDC cross-chain through the CCTP V1 contract must initiate migration immediately. CCTP V2 introduces two transfer modes: standard and fast, and supports programmable Hook functionality for triggering automated operations on the target chain. It is already compatible with 27 blockchains. Beginning October 31, the burn limit for CCTP V1 will start to decrease, with performance gradually degrading to zero over the course of a month. From December 1, related contracts will be paused, and integrations pointing to V1 will no longer be able to complete cross-chain transfers. Developers must complete the use of the replaceDepositForBurn function by January 12, 2026, after which this function will no longer be supported on CCTP V1. CCTP V2 operates with independent contracts and APIs, and is not backward compatible with V1.
