Coinbase is rebranding the Base App back to Coinbase Wallet, emphasizing its transition to a multichain trading platform. Ryan Kass, head of product for Coinbase Wallet, stated that the familiar name aligns with the company's broader strategy of enabling users to trade any asset across various blockchain networks. The rebrand signifies a commitment to trading flexibility, allowing users to access assets regardless of their blockchain origin. Recent developments include the launch of perpetual futures on Hyperliquid and support for additional networks like Solana. Kass noted that the rebranding reflects user demand for a wider range of trading options. This change comes 14 months after the introduction of the Base App, which aimed to combine crypto trading with social networking and other features. While Coinbase and Robinhood compete, Kass emphasized the importance of offering diverse assets to attract users. He acknowledged the cyclical nature of blockchain popularity, stating that Coinbase Wallet will be prepared for shifts in user preference. Despite the name change, Coinbase remains dedicated to supporting the Base network.
