Japan Sees Largest Two-Month Foreign Capital Outflow of 4.03 Trillion Yen in 2023
In June and July, overseas investors sold a total of 4.03 trillion yen worth of Japanese government bonds, marking the largest two-month foreign capital outflow since the beginning of 2023. In June, foreign investors sold 2.4 trillion yen, followed by an additional 1.63 trillion yen in July. The outflow in June was partly driven by the maturity of quarterly bonds. In July, Japanese investors reduced their holdings of U.S. and Italian sovereign bonds while increasing their purchases of German and French sovereign bonds.
