Japan's Core Machinery Orders Increase by 9.7% in June
Japan's core machinery orders in June increased by 9.7% compared to the previous month. This marks a rebound from a 12.4% decline in May, indicating an improvement in leading indicators that reflect corporate capital investment trends. The Cabinet Office's Economic and Social Research Institute announced that private core machinery orders rose by 9.7% on a seasonally adjusted basis in June. The market expectation was a 7.8% increase. Overall machinery orders increased by 0.4% from the previous month, and while the monthly core orders rebounded significantly, the overall increase in orders was relatively modest. On a quarterly basis, total machinery orders from April to June increased by 11.3% compared to the previous quarter, but private core machinery orders only saw a 0.2% increase. Core machinery orders exclude volatile categories such as ships and power companies, reflecting orders for corporate equipment and facilities. The Cabinet Office expects total machinery orders from July to September to decrease by 0.1% compared to the previous quarter, while private core machinery orders are projected to increase by 4.9%. This forecast is based on aggregated data from 280 machinery manufacturers, and actual capital investment trends may vary depending on manufacturing orders, exchange rates, and changes in external demand.
