Rails Reveals Status of Enigma's Quantum Resistance Preparation
Rails has disclosed the status of Enigma's quantum resistance preparation. Enigma is a privacy-oriented payment protocol operating on the Rails network. Rails stated that not only must the system be equipped with quantum resistance, but it must also analyze the cryptographic technologies used, vulnerabilities, and the potential for future technology replacements. Currently, the United States is set to finalize three types of quantum-resistant cryptographic standards by August 2024 and will require the application of specific quantum-resistant algorithms starting in January 2027. The European Union plans to establish national quantum-resistant cryptography strategies by 2026. Rails explained that five out of the seven key cryptographic technologies used in the Enigma payment process are capable of responding to quantum resistance. However, two still have unresolved challenges. Rails emphasized that financial institutions should not merely settle for the term 'quantum safe' when evaluating their infrastructure, adding that the potential for replacing cryptographic technologies is crucial. Currently, over 30 financial institutions are utilizing Rails' technology.
